Agilent Technologies: PFAS Mini webinar Series

PFAS testing laboratories are being asked to do more than ever before. As regulatory requirements evolve and target analyte lists expand, analysts across environmental, food, and materials testing laboratories must deliver reliable trace-level PFAS measurements in increasingly complex applications. In this seven-part mini webinar series, we explore a range of solutions for trace-level PFAS determination, including Feed Injection and large-volume injection techniques, automated sample preparation, direct injection workflows, SPE strategies, thermal desorption, and complementary LC/MS/MS and GC/MS approaches. Each webinar addresses a different aspect of PFAS analysis, providing practical insights into workflow design, method performance, and laboratory productivity.

Session 5: Enhancing GC/MS Workflows for PFAS Analysis in Air

Measurement and increased understanding of volatile and semi-volatile neutral per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have shown that they are an important class of airborne contaminants and represent a significant pathway for human exposure. They are also incredibly difficult to destroy and remove effectively from the environment.

Accurate measurement of these compounds requires sampling and analytical approaches that address compound volatility, persistence, and the management of interferents.

This presentation will provide an overview of how Markes Thermal Desorption (TD) coupled with Agilent GC/MS systems can deliver robust, defensible data and the flexibility needed to address the challenges of PFAS analysis.

In this mini webinar, discover how to:

  • Address the analytical challenges of volatile and semi-volatile PFAS
  • Understand the role of thermal desorption for PFAS in air analysis
  • Manage sampling and interferent challenges to generate robust analytical data

Presenter: Hannah Calder (Global Sector Manager, Markes)

Hannah Calder is Global Sector Manager for the environmental monitoring market at Markes; a manufacturer sample introduction instrumentation for GC and GC/MS. Specialising in sampling and analysis of organic compounds from a variety of environmental matrices, she is a member of the British Standards Institute contributing to the development of international analytical standards for monitoring of organic compounds through CEN, ASTM and ISO. Within this role she is currently writing methods for monitoring of PFAS in air within CEN.
