Features

Agilent G3170-60775 is an internal analyzer assembly for the Agilent 5975C Series GC/MSD in an inert configuration with an ion source capable of operation up to 350 °C. The assembly forms a key part of the mass analyzer and is intended for service, repair, or refurbishment of Agilent 5975C GC/MSD systems.

The 5975C platform combines inert electron ionization (EI), a monolithic hyperbolic quadrupole mass filter, and Triple-Axis Detector technology for sensitive GC/MS analysis, including demanding and active compounds.

Inert EI Configuration

The 5975C Inert GC/MSD uses a noncoated inert EI source designed to reduce unwanted interactions between active analytes and ion-source surfaces.

Ion-source temperature range:

  • 150–350 °C

The high-temperature source is particularly useful for:

  • less volatile compounds,
  • active analytes,
  • pesticides,
  • PAHs,
  • environmental contaminants,
  • complex matrices.

Quadrupole Analyzer

The 5975C platform uses a monolithic hyperbolic quadrupole mass filter.

Key platform specifications include:

  • minimum mass: 1.6 u
  • maximum mass: 1050 u
  • resolution: unit mass, tune-adjustable
  • mass-axis stability: better than 0.10 u over 48 h
  • quadrupole temperature: 106–200 °C

Detection System

The 5975C uses a Triple-Axis Detector with long-life electron multiplier.

The Triple-Axis geometry helps reduce the direct impact of neutral species and photons on the detector, supporting low background and high sensitivity.

Electronic dynamic range: approximately 10⁶

Scan Performance

5975C electronics provide:

  • scan rates up to 12,500 u/s
  • write-to-disk rates up to 8,000 u/s

This supports fast GC separations as well as qualitative and quantitative GC/MS workflows.

Acquisition Modes

The standard EI configuration supports:

  • Full Scan
  • SIM – Selected Ion Monitoring
  • combined Scan/SIM workflows depending on method and software

The platform supports up to 60 ions × 100 SIM groups.

5975C Temperature Specifications

  • Ion source: 150–350 °C
  • Quadrupole: 106–200 °C
  • Transfer line: 100–350 °C

The 350 °C, Inert designation identifies the high-temperature inert analyzer/source configuration.

Compatibility

G3170-60775 is intended for:

  • Agilent 5975C Series GC/MSD
  • service of inert EI 5975C configurations
  • matching 5975C analyzer hardware revisions

The 5975C platform was commonly paired with:

  • Agilent 7890A GC
  • Agilent 6890 GC
  • Agilent 6850 GC

Exact analyzer compatibility depends on the hardware revision of the individual MSD.
