Features

The Mettler Toledo DM40 is a LiquiPhysics™ Excellence benchtop digital density meter designed for accurate determination of density, specific gravity, and density-related concentration values. It supports measurements including °Brix, alcohol concentration, API gravity for petroleum products, Baumé, BABO, and user-defined concentrations. The instrument covers a density range of 0.0000–3.0000 g/cm³ with an accuracy of 0.0001 g/cm³.

Integrated Peltier temperature control provides precise sample conditioning from 0.0 to 91.0 °C. The DM40 is designed for rapid routine measurements using approximately 1 mL minimum sample volume, with a typical measurement time of 30 seconds or approximately 5 seconds after temperature equilibrium has been reached.

Measurement Parameters

The DM40 supports direct or calculated determination of:

  • density,
  • specific gravity,
  • °Brix,
  • HFCS,
  • alcohol concentration,
  • API gravity,
  • Baumé,
  • BABO,
  • user-defined concentrations.

Temperature Control

An integrated Peltier system provides active heating and cooling of the measuring cell.

  • Temperature range: 0.0–91.0 °C
  • Active temperature control: Yes
  • Temperature compensation: Yes

The broad temperature range enables methods to be adapted to different sample types and standardized measurement conditions.

Automatic Measurement Error Detection

LiquiPhysics Excellence systems are designed to automatically detect selected measurement errors, helping reduce the risk of incorrect results caused by filling problems or other measurement issues.

The system also supports automatic adjustment verification and product-oriented OneClick™ workflows.

Viscosity Correction

The DM40 includes viscosity correction to compensate for the influence of sample viscosity on density measurement.

This is particularly useful for more viscous liquids where uncompensated viscosity effects could affect measurement accuracy.

Sample Automation

The DM40 can be combined with optional sample handling systems including:

  • FillPal Food
  • FillPal Chem
  • SC1
  • SC1H heated version
  • InMotion
  • SC30
  • SC30H heated version

These systems can automate sample filling, series measurements, and cleaning.

Modular Expansion

LiquiPhysics Excellence supports integration of density measurement with additional analytical parameters.

Optional accessories include:

  • RX refractive index cell,
  • pH measurement,
  • conductivity measurement,
  • color measurement,
  • AtmoSens USB barometric pressure sensor.

This enables multiple parameters to be measured from the same sample within an integrated workflow.

Software and Data Management

The DM40 can be integrated with LabX™ laboratory software for method, sample, and result management.

LabX supports:

  • centralized data management,
  • sample list creation,
  • automated QC workflows,
  • LIMS/SAP connectivity,
  • user management,
  • traceable documentation.

For regulated environments, LabX can support workflows related to 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.

User Identification

Optional LogStraight™ provides fingerprint-based user identification.

Additional options include:

  • barcode scanner,
  • ScanStraight™,
  • ErgoSens™,
  • WasteSens.
