Consequently, the demand for PAT is increasing.</p><p>Nexera FV is an HPLC system setup for on-line analysis equipped with a flow through vial in the autosampler (Fig. 1). The system enables automated processes from continuous delivery of reaction solution into the flow through vial to resulting report creation of HPLC analysis.</p><p>This article introduces an on-line monitoring of flow synthesis reactions using Nexera FV, taking an example of the esterification of carboxylic acid.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> On-line monitoring of the esterification reaction of phenylpropionic acid by flow synthesis as performed using Nexera FV. Connecting the reaction system and the flow through vial, sampling and analysis was able to be performed automatically according to the analytical batch. In addition, the multi-data reporting function allowed reaction tracking on reactant and product by automatic generation of trend plot after analysis. Nexera FV and LabSolutions FV simplified analytical batch creation, automated sampling, and reporting. The 1290 Infinity II Bio LC is specifically designed for conditions used in biochromatography, with a completely iron-free flow path and high tolerance to the salt-based buffers typically used in SEC.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> An Agilent 1260 Infinity II Multi-Angle Light Scattering Detector coupled to an Agilent 1290 Infinity II Bio LC System provided biophysical information for the analysis of large mRNA molecules. The precise determination of the molecular weight was in near-perfect agreement with the theoretical value of the mRNA sequence. N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is known as an organic solvent used in solvent-based slurries, and especially for quality control of the cathode, the residual amount of NMP in the cathode is examined during the drying process.</p><p>In this application, a simple analysis method for residual NMP in the cathode of lithium-ion battery NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary material) using GC-FID with headspace method is introduced. In addition, results of qualitative analysis of other solvents remaining in the NCM cathode using GC-MS and<br>comparison of residual solvent amounts in five different cathodes with different drying processes are also presented.</p><p><strong>Summary: </strong>By using headspace GC-FID, it is possible to easily analyze residual NMP in the cathode and quantify residual solvents without the need for preprocessing. Additionally, with headspace GC-MS, qualitative analysis of residual organic solvents can also be performed.</p><p>Using compact models such as Brevis GC-2050 or GCMS-QP2050 allows for minimization of experimental space and detailed analysis of solvent analysis for each drying process. This can be applied to quality control and research and development in the cathode manufacturing process.</p><h4><strong>2. </strong><style type="text/css"></style><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;" data-sheets-root="1"><strong>Agilent Technologies</strong></span></span><strong>: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_forensic_triple_quad_mrm_database_toxicological_5994_7594en_agilent_0dbf3ad769.pdf"><strong>A Forensic Triple Quadrupole GC/MS MRM Database for Forensic and Toxicological Workflows</strong></a></h4><ul><li>application</li></ul><p><strong>Abstract:</strong> Systematic toxicological analysis is crucial in forensic laboratories, requiring robust and reliable analytical methods. Gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC/TQ) is a versatile and widely used technique that provides uniform results across instruments and laboratories. The aim of this study was to establish a database of multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) transitions for<br>toxicologically relevant compounds amenable to GC/MS. The resulting curated database includes 176 entries, including 154 unique compounds with up to 12 transitions per compound. The database allows for instantly building methods for targeted screening and confident quantitation of GC-amenable, forensic, and toxicologically relevant compounds.</p><p>The database is available for download as a CSV file in Appendix 1 of this application note.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> The forensic toxicology database, with a curated set of 1,803 MRM transitions for 176 toxicologically relevant compounds, was successfully developed. The compounds included &nbsp;benzodiazepines, antidepressants, opioids, and drugs of abuse. The application of this MRM method to<br>an authentic real-world sample showcased its ability to detect and quantitate toxicants at trace levels due to the high sensitivity and selectivity of the MS/MS approach. This approach addresses limitations when relying solely on full scan data acquisition mode.</p><p>The developed MRM database can be used for simplified data acquisition method creation, providing a valuable resource for the development of screening and quantitation methods in forensic labs. The developed MRM curation workflow showed promise for continuous expansion, offering a uniform and practical approach for adding new chemicals to the database.</p><h4><strong>3. </strong><style type="text/css"></style><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;" data-sheets-root="1"><strong>Agilent Technologies</strong></span></span><strong>: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/te_hydroinert_ei_source_functionality_longevity_5994_7680en_agilent_991ba3a869.pdf"><strong>Optimizing HydroInert EI Source Functionality and Longevity</strong></a></h4><ul><li>technical note</li></ul><p><strong>Introduction: </strong>The benefits of hydrogen in gas chromatography (GC) are widely accepted, as it can be generated in the lab in a cost-effective manner, produces fast chromatography, and allows for higher sample throughput. Since hydrogen is a reactive gas, hydrogenation and dechlorination reactions can and do occur in the mass spectrometer electron ionization (EI) source. These reactions can make applying hydrogen carrier gas to many applications difficult. A specially designed extractor source for the Agilent Inert Plus GC/MSD and triple quadrupole GC/MS systems address these hydrogen-related issues and improves performance with hydrogen carrier gas. The Agilent HydroInert source (Figure 1) with H<sub>2</sub> carrier gas retains mass spectral fidelity and can allow users to continue to use existing helium-based mass spectral libraries.</p><p>When adopting hydrogen for GC/MS analysis, there are several factors to consider. First, hydrogen is a reactive gas, and it may potentially cause chemical reactions in the inlet, column, and sometimes the MS EI source, which can change analysis results. To address potential issues in the MS source while using hydrogen, the HydroInert source was used. Additional information can be found in the Agilent technical overview of the HydroInert source.<sup>1</sup> Second, for GC/MS applications, hardware changes in the gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer are recommended when switching to hydrogen carrier gas. The Agilent Helium to Hydrogen Carrier Gas Conversion Guide<sup>2</sup> describes in detail the steps for conversion from helium to hydrogen carrier gas. Lastly, it is recommended that when working with flammable or explosive gases, laboratories maintain proper safety in gas handling and use. Further information on the<br>safe use of hydrogen can be found in the Agilent Hydrogen Safety Manual<sup>3</sup> and Hydrogen Safety for the Agilent GC System Guide.<sup>4,5</sup></p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Agilent HydroInert source longevity is dependent on application and method conditions. However, by using some of the best practices highlighted above, the longevity of HydroInert parts can be prolonged. The HydroInert source cannot be mechanically or chemically cleaned, thus when source parts show reduced functionality, replacement of the recommended parts above is required to restore functionality. Regarding analyzing elements in cosmetics, ISO 1392 (Measurement of traces of heavy metals in cosmetic finished products using ICP/MS technique) was issued on August 17, 2021. This test method demonstrates the technique for measuring heavy metals in cosmetic products using ICP-MS. In this Application news, eight elements, including those listed in ISO 21392 (Cr, Co, Ni, As, Cd, Sb, Pb) and mercury (Hg), were analyzed with the Shimadzu ICPMS-2040/2050 ICP mass spectrometer (Fig. 1).</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Simultaneous analysis of heavy metals in cosmetics was performed by ICP-MS with reference to ISO21392. It was found that the ICPMS-2040/2050 could be used for analysis with a sensitivity that was well within the required value. The recovery test results were good, and the validity of the analysis was confirmed.</p><p>By using a mini torch, the argon gas consumption and running costs were reduced.</p><h4><strong>4. China dominates global SIB production, accounting for roughly 95% of the world's capacity. However, interest and development of this technology is also increasing in other regions due to the cost-effectiveness, safety, fast charging times, and long life cycles of SIBs. The production capacity of the batteries worldwide is expected to rise significantly by 2030.</p><p>The electrolyte of a battery facilitates the movement of ions between the cathode and anode, making it a key component that affects the charge transfer properties and overall performance of the final device. Many SIBs use a Na-conducting salt as the electrolyte, such as sodium hexafluorophosphate (NaPF<sub>6</sub>), sodium perchlorate (NaClO<sub>4</sub>), or sodium bistrifluoromethylsulfonimide (NaTFSI).</p><p>NaPF6 is the most widely used salt due to its higher ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability compared to the other salts. However, these properties can be affected by the presence of elemental impurities such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn) in the electrolyte. Impurities can also lead to side reactions within the electrolyte or can contribute to the formation of passivation layers on electrode surfaces or current collectors, reducing overall battery efficiency, lifespan, and safety. The detection of trace elements in Na salt electrolytes has therefore become an essential part of the quality control (QC) process in Na-ion battery manufacturing.</p><p>Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) is a fast, robust analytical technique that is widely used for the simultaneous measurement of multiple trace elements in complex battery-related samples.</p><p>However, the presence of many Na and other metal ions in the plasma can affect the analysis of easily ionized elements (EIEs), such as calcium (Ca), lithium (Li), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K) leading to false high results. To avoid ionization interference by the Na matrix on other elements, ICP-OES is often used in radial view mode. However, radial view mode lacks the sensitivity required for the analysis of trace elements, which is problematic if EIEs are present in the electrolyte at low concentrations. In response to this challenge, an Agilent 5800 Vertical Dual View (VDV) ICP-OES operating in axial view mode was used to determine low-concentration elemental impurities in the Na-based electrolytes. Agilent ICP-OES systems use a resilient, plug-and-play torch configuration to produce a vertical plasma that is especially good at handling challenging matrices, including battery-related samples. The solid-state RF (SSRF) system of the Agilent ICP-OES instruments, operating at 27 MHz, and a Cooled Cone Interface (CCI) produce a reliable, robust, and maintenance-free plasma suitable for high matrix samples, such as Na-salt electrolytes. The CCI deflects the plasma’s cooler tail, avoiding interferences that form in that region and enabling measurement of most elements at trace concentration levels in axial view mode. Matrix matched calibration standards were also used to minimize EIE interferences.</p><p>The 5800 method, which was used to determine 26 analytes in two NaPF6 electrolyte samples, was evaluated in terms of sensitivity, accuracy, and stability. The elements included aluminum, arsenic, boron, beryllium, calcium, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, potassium, lithium, magnesium, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, niobium, nickel, lead, sulfur, tantalum, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, zinc, and zirconium. While there is currently no standard for sodium hexafluorophosphate, many of these elements are specified in the China standard GB/T 19282-2014 for lithium hexafluorophosphate, plus some elements of concern within the industry.</p><h4><strong>5. Current research has shown that secondary microplastics are more prominent than primary microplastics.</p><p>The analytical process for extracting microplastics from various matrices typically involves sample collection, sample preparation, and instrumental analysis. Each of these steps presents an opportunity for the introduction or loss of microplastics. This highlights the importance of robust sample preparation methods, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC) measures. QA/QC practices allow researchers to assess the reliability of data.</p><p>The success of any spectroscopic analysis of microplastic particles relies on the effectiveness of the sample preparation procedure. Inadequate or improper preparation can introduce errors into the analysis, resulting in unreliable data. Whether using infrared (IR) or Raman microscopy, it is essential to isolate microplastic particles and distribute them discretely on a substrate for analysis. The more complex the matrix, the more extensive the preparation required. Standardizing sample preparation methods is crucial for enabling the comparison of results across different studies.</p><p>This guide covers key aspects of sample preparation to ensure accurate and standardized characterization of microplastics relevant to the Agilent 8700 Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) chemical imaging system. However, as &nbsp;these studies scale to thousands of patient samples &nbsp;throughput becomes the limiting factor.</p><p>One such possible method is to decrease separation time &nbsp;using methods such as Rapid Microbore Metabolic &nbsp;Profilling (RAMMP) that scale down column dimensions &nbsp;and chromatographic separation time <sup>1</sup>. However, this &nbsp;does come at the cost of peak capacity and feature &nbsp;detection.</p><p>One way to maintain narrow peak widths is to move the &nbsp;column significantly closer to the MS source, and in &nbsp;combination with a vacuum jacket to mitigate frictional &nbsp;heating and temperature differentials, vacuum jacketed &nbsp;columns (VJC) can significantly increase peak capacity &nbsp;and narrow peak widths (Figure 1) <sup>2</sup>.</p><p>Reliable identification of lipids in short analysis times &nbsp;requires high resolution mass spectrometers capable of &nbsp;fast scanning without loss of resolution. Multi reflecting &nbsp;time of flight utilises gridless mirrors to prevent ion loss &nbsp;while increasing flight length, and therefore, mass &nbsp;resolution. The benchtop Xevo MRT Mass &nbsp;Spectrometer is capable of scanning at 100Hz while &nbsp;maintaining a mass resolution of 100,000 full width half &nbsp;maximal (FWHM), necessary for sufficiently profiling ever &nbsp;decreasing peak widths (Figure 2).</p><p>As such, vacuum jacketed columns and the Xevo MRT &nbsp;MS were applied to the analysis of the lipidome of &nbsp;healthy controls and patients with different cancers and &nbsp;compared with conventional chromatography.</p><h4><strong>3. Since the carbon-fluorine bond is the strongest in organic chemistry, PFAS was manufactured for desirable water-resistant, oil-resistant, and heatresistant properties. Since the 1940’s, industries have integrated PFAS in products such as food packaging, textiles, and household products due to their unique properties. However, a characteristic of PFAS of concern is their slow breakdown rate, leading to potential accumulation in people, animals, and the environment. Studies have shown widespread exposure to PFAS among the United States population.1 In response to growing concerns regarding consumer exposure to PFAS, many states have initiated bans of PFAS uses in various consumer products and food packaging materials.2 These bans have led to a need for analytical testing to determine the amount of PFAS in consumer products, however, the lack of standardized methods presents challenges in ensuring reliability and reproducibility between labs.</p><h4><strong>5. Agilent Technologies: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_vitamins_infant_formula_1260_infinity_ii_5994_7696en_agilent_3ee72e81cb.pdf"><strong>Simplified Analysis Workflow – Determination of Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6 in Infant Formula</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This study developed and validated an efficient workflow for analyzing vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6 in infant formula. The workflow employed a straightforward sample preparation protocol, using trichloroacetic acid (TCA) for protein precipitation. For enhanced detection sensitivity, the analysis was performed using the Agilent 1260 Infinity II Prime LC system, equipped with a 60 mm Agilent InfinityLab Max-Light cartridge cell in the diode array detector (DAD). The developed methods demonstrated robustness and reliability in quantifying B vitamins in infant formula, ensuring accurate nutritional labeling and compliance with regulatory&nbsp;standards.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>This study successfully developed and validated an efficient workflow for quantifying B vitamins in infant formula. The workflow uses a simple and straightforward sample preparation protocol to precipitate proteins in the formula. Despite its simplicity, the study demonstrated excellent linearity, repeatability, and recovery, providing reliable measurements of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6. The use of the Agilent 1260 Infinity II Prime LC system, paired with a 60&nbsp;mm Agilent InfinityLab Max-Light cartridge cell in the DAD, significantly enhanced detection&nbsp;sensitivity.</p>
