Agilent Technologies: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_ultrafast_immunosuppressants_lc_ms_5994_7829en_agilent_414e1b7386.pdf"><strong>Ultrafast Quantitation of Immunosuppressant Drugs in Whole Blood by Agilent 6475 LC/MS</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>An ultrafast, 2.5-minute quantitation method using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) for four immunosuppressant drugs was established using an Agilent 6475 triple quadrupole LC/MS with the RECIPE therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) kit. This application note emphasizes validation of an ultrafast measurement of tacrolimus, sirolimus, everolimus, and cyclosporine A in whole blood with outstanding sensitivity and interday reliability.</p><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>TDM is essential for ensuring efficacy and minimizing the adverse effects of drug delivery. The need for immunosuppressant drugs for organ and bone marrow transplant patients has been growing annually. Administration of immunosuppressants is strictly monitored as many side effects, including nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity, must be considered. LC/MS is considered the gold standard for measurement of immunosuppressants due to results<br>showing remarkable sensitivity and specificity.</p><p>The RECIPE ClinMass TDM kit system for immunosuppressants in whole blood (Munich, Germany) was used on the 6475 triple quadrupole LC/MS for analysis of tacrolimus, sirolimus, everolimus, and cyclosporine A. Validation of the RECIPE TDM kit was implemented to evaluate sensitivity, linearity, and interday repeatability across three consecutive days (n = 3). Sample preparation is straightforward without the need for complicated cleanup or filtration.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>A rapid analysis of tacrolimus, sirolimus, everolimus, and cyclosporine A in whole blood was established on an Agilent 6475 triple quadrupole LC/MS. Together with straightforward sample preparation, the method demonstrates robust measurement of immunosuppressant drugs in biological samples. Ultrafast acquisition times allow the high-throughput analysis of more than 500 samples per day. By coupling with the ready-to-use RECIPE ClinMass TDM kit system, Agilent provides a comprehensive end-to-end solution for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of immunosuppressants.</p><h4><strong>3. Thermo Fisher Scientific: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/tn_003318_lsms_mabs_orbitrap_ascend_biopharma_tn003318_na_en_180dc41f10.pdf"><strong>In-depth characterization of monoclonal antibodies</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Goal</strong></p><p>To assess the performance of the Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap™ Ascend BioPharma Tribrid™ mass spectrometer for comprehensive monoclonal antibody (mAb) characterization using intact mass analysis and middle-down mass spectrometry (MD-MS) approaches. The MD-MS methods were developed using a combination of powerful ion activation techniques including electron transfer dissociation (ETD), electron transfer higher energy collision dissociation (EThcD), ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD), and ion manipulation by proton-transfer charge reduction (PTCR).</p><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>mAbs can display structural heterogeneity due to the presence of various post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as glycosylation, oxidation, and deamidation. These modifications can affect their structure, stability, and function. Therefore, in-depth characterization of mAb heterogeneity is critical to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of biotherapeutics. The middle-down mass spectrometry (MD-MS) approach has emerged as a promising tool for therapeutic characterization.<sup>1-4</sup> It involves the formation of mAb subunits by reduction and/or digestion, followed by tandem MS (MS/MS) fragmentation of these subunits, offering high sequence coverage while involving a straightforward sample preparation.</p><p>The Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma Tribrid mass spectrometer offers many benefits for biopharmaceutical characterizations. The high mass accuracy and high resolution offered by the Orbitrap technology enable precise mass measurement of intact mAbs or subunits. The Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma MS provides multiple MS/MS fragmentation techniques, including collision-induced dissociation (CID), higher-energy collisional dissociation (HCD), ETD, EThcD, electron transfer and collision-induced dissociation (ETciD), and UVPD, to achieve a full characterization of mAbs. In addition, this powerful instrument offers the PTCR technology with extended mass ranges (up to 16,000 m/z with Native MS option enabled) that can be employed alone or combined with different fragmentation techniques for the characterization of complex biotherapeutics. The Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma MS also benefits from its unique revolutionary architecture by having a second ion-routing multipole (front HCD cell) in the system which improves the<br>transmission of large molecules and increases the sensitivity to detect low-abundance species in complex samples.</p><p>In this work, intact mass analysis and MD-MS approaches were employed to characterize trastuzumab and its subunits on an Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma Tribrid MS. All the analyses were performed in the intact protein mode at various pressure modes, and for intact trastuzumab the Native MS option was used. Figure 1 shows the main LC-MS workflow employed for intact and subunit analyses of trastuzumab.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>In this work, intact and middle-down workflows were employed to obtain precise intact mass and high sequence coverage of mAb subunits using the Vanquish Flex UHPLC system and Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma Tribrid mass spectrometer. The Orbitrap Ascend BioPharma MS provides the following advantages for comprehensive biopharmaceutical characterization.</p><ul><li>The high mass accuracy and high resolution offered by the Orbitrap technology provides precise mass measurement for both intact mAbs (native and denaturing) and their subunits.</li><li>The system provides multiple fragmentation techniques, such as ETD, EThcD, and UVPD, for achieving high sequence coverage for various biopharmaceutical molecules.</li><li>Compared to ETD, EThcD and UVPD provide an improved sequence coverage of mAb subunits due to the formation of additional fragment types.</li><li>The combination of PTCR with EThcD and UVPD led to further increase in sequence coverage of mAb subunits and the number of complementary ion pairs.</li><li>The combination of EThcD, UVPD, and PTCR offers a nearly complete sequence coverage (&gt;90%) for subunits in the size of 20–25 kDa (Fc/2, LC, and Fd’ subunits) and high sequence coverage (&gt;70%) for the HC subunit (≈50 kDa).</li></ul><h4><strong>4. Shimadzu: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_01_00814_en_028966d0aa.pdf"><strong>Automatic Optimization of Gradient Conditions by AI Algorithm on Synthetic Peptide and Impurities</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>User Benefits</strong></p><ul><li>The AI algorithm of LabSolutions MD can automatically optimize gradient conditions to greatly reduce labor of LC method development.</li><li>Anyone can optimize gradient conditions, regardless of their experience in chromatography.</li><li>Gradient conditions that meet the resolution criteria for specified peaks are automatically searched (e.g., principal component and related impurities).</li></ul><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>In the typical LC method development, the process begins with “preparation” which includes mobile phase preparation, column installation, and creation of analysis schedules, then the analysis is started. After that, the acquired data is analyzed and “preparation” for the subsequent analysis is carried out, followed by starting the next analysis again. The method development progresses by repeating these processes, but in addition to the<br>significant time required to repeatedly create analysis schedules, expertise in chromatography is necessary to explore optimal conditions based on data analysis. In other words, typical method development requires “human intervention”. Therefore, eliminating human involvement and automating such method development processes would be desirable to improve labor efficiency. This article introduces an example of automatic optimization of gradient conditions to meet resolution criteria for synthetic peptide and related impurities using LabSolutions MD (<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/c190_e309_96044bc345/c190-e309.pdf"><strong>Technical Report C190-E309</strong></a>), a dedicated software for supporting method development.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>Automatic optimization of gradient conditions using AI algorithm of LabSolutions MD was applied to synthetic peptide and related impurities. As a result, gradient conditions that met the criteria (resolution for FLP &gt; 2.0) were successfully explored. This result indicates that significant labor saving in method development can be expected by LabSolutions MD. This article introduces an automatic optimization of gradient conditions in method development while LabSolutions MD also supports a series of workflow of method development, including screening of mobile phases and columns. Currently, there are two commonly available pump mixing designs for reversed phase gradient HPLC separations - high pressure (typically binary) and low pressure (all quaternary) systems. High pressure systems use two independent pumps to deliver different solvents. Mixing occurs at high pressures with solvent composition controlled by the flow rates of the two pump heads. In low pressure systems, solvent composition is controlled by a gradient proportioning valve. Each solvent is delivered in packets (based on the gradient specified in the method) which are mixed as they go through the pump head. Both high and low pressure systems are subject to mobile phase composition fluctuations. Mixers of various volumes and designs are utilized to help minimize these composition fluctuations by reducing baseline noise and oscillations in mobile phase composition.</p><p>Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a commonly used ion-pairing reagent used in combination with acetonitrile for many gradient reversed phase applications. TFA absorbs strongly at wavelengths below 250 nm. Additionally, TFA is slightly retained on reversed phase columns which results in fluctuations in TFA concentration as the acetonitrile gradient passes through the column. In combination, these factors result in significant baseline disturbances (ripples) when TFA - acetonitrile gradients are used at low wavelengths. These baseline ripples may make peak integration difficult, and can impact the sensitivity and retention time precision of the method.</p><p>Most modern HPLC systems include a standard mixer in the pump design. Additionally, different mixers may be available to improve mixing performance for specific applications. In this study, mixers of varying volumes and design were evaluated.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p><p>Mixing performance is critical to obtaining optimal LC separations. In this study, several HPLC systems and mixers were evaluated using a TFA-Acetonitrile gradient method at a low wavelength which is known to produce baseline ripples. The USP signal to noise ratio was used to determine the impact of the different mixers.</p><p>The results demonstrate that the sensitivity of the method is impacted by the system/mixer used, and consideration should be given to mixer selection, especially when running methods which are subject to increased baseline noise.</p>

Agilent Technologies: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_solvents_additives_lithium_battery_8850_gc_5994_7838en_agilent_2c941af653.pdf"><strong>Solvents and Additives Analysis in Lithium Battery Electrolytes Using the Agilent 8850 GC System and Applying It to Real Samples</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The electrolyte is a key component in lithium-ion batteries, playing a vital role in transferring and conducting current between the positive and negative electrodes. The selection and optimization of electrolyte components are important in improving battery performance. Therefore, the analysis of electrolyte composition is an essential task in the lithium battery industry. This application note introduces an analytical method for determining carbonate solvents and additives in lithium battery electrolytes based on the Agilent 8850 gas chromatography (GC) system with a flame-ionization detector (FID). In this study, standard samples were used for method evaluation, and excellent performance results in terms of linearity, reproducibility, and detection limits were obtained. Real samples were run to investigate the impact of high acid and high salt samples on the performance of the entire GC system. Compared to undiluted samples, diluted samples can significantly extend the lifespan of the liner and column.</p><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>The lithium battery industry is a rapidly growing sector, largely driven by the increasing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems. Lithium batteries are known for their high energy density and long cycle life. One of the four key materials in lithium batteries, the electrolyte, has main components including organic solvents, lithium salts, and a small amount of additives. The solvents in the electrolyte, such as ethylene carbonate (EC) or dimethyl carbonate (DMC), determine its ionic conductivity and stability. An optimal blend of solvents can enhance the battery's efficiency and lifespan. Additives are also crucial, as they can improve the electrolyte's performance and safety. For instance, they can suppress the formation of harmful byproducts, enhance the stability of the electrolyte, and improve the interface between the electrolyte and electrode. Therefore, analyzing and identifying the composition of carbonate compounds and additives in the electrolyte of lithium batteries is of great significance for<br>performance study and quality control in the lithium battery industry.</p><p>An earlier Agilent application note demonstrated the use of the Agilent 5977B single quadrupole gas chromatography/mass selective detector (GC/MSD) system to measure carbonate solvents and additives in the electrolyte. The note detailed the accurate quantification of target compounds and the qualitative analysis of unknown additives or impurities.<sup>1</sup> In 2023, another application note was published describing the determination of carbonate and additive compounds in the electrolyte with the Agilent 8860 GC/FID system.<sup>2</sup> Compared with GC/MSD, the GC/FID configuration is easier to use and more cost-effective for users. It is very suitable for laboratories that only need to quantify target compounds and do not need to detect unknown substances. This application note was developed based on the latest small-size, high-performance 8850 GC/FID system. With an effective analytical method established, the impact of running a large number of real samples on the overall GC system performance was examined, particularly the effects of the consumables on the GC inlet and the lifespan of the column.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>This application note introduces an analytical method for determining carbonate solvent and some additive compounds in lithium battery electrolytes based on an Agilent 8850 GC system with FID. The performance results for the linearity, repeatability, and detection limit of 13 target compounds<br>indicate the outstanding sensitivity and reliability of this system. By running undiluted real samples, the impact of high-salt, high-acid samples on the<br>entire system was explored. This study also demonstrates that even after more than 400 runs, the whole system can still maintain excellent stability after<br>the real samples have been diluted 100x. Injecting diluted samples can ensure that the system operates at its best performance and greatly extend<br>the life of consumables. In summary, this method using the 8850 GC system with FID provides an easy-to-use, cost-effective, and stable platform for<br>electrolyte analysis.</p><h4><strong>2. Agilent Technologies: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_luma_multichannel_vacuum_ultraviolet_detector_5994_7848en_agilent_db7e560ba8.pdf"><strong>LUMA Multichannel Vacuum Ultraviolet Detector on an Agilent 8890 GC</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>The LUMA multichannel vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) detector is a unique gas chromatography (GC) detector that covers a wide range of applications such as petrochemical, environmental, food, and pharmaceutical analysis. The LUMA detector is considered a universal detector with high sensitivity and a large linear range. Similar to other UV-Vis methodologies, Beer's Law is the detector's guiding principle of quantitation, making the LUMA a concentration-based detector.</p><p>The LUMA operates across the electromagnetic spectrum, from the VUV region at 118 nm to the visible light region at 1,050 nm. Light is generated by a specialized deuterium lamp that is housed within the detector box. This light is then collimated by a fixed mirror and directed through a heated flow cell, where it interacts with the analytes. A photodiode array captures the transmitted light and converts it into an electrical signal. For ease of use, this signal is divided into 12 bands, spanning wavelengths from 118 to 1,050 nm, based on discrete energy levels, as shown in Figure 1.</p><p>In this application brief, the LUMA detector was paired with an Agilent 8890 GC and Agilent J&amp;W DB-1 column to demonstrate the analysis capabilities of the system.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>The LUMA multichannel VUV detector and Agilent 8890 GC equipped with an Agilent J&amp;W DB-1 column together yield a wide range of linearity, high area repeatability, excellent peak resolution, and Gaussian peak shape. With the combination of the VUV spectral data and peak retention time, users can confidently identify the analytes in the sample.</p><h4><strong>3. Exposomics is the study of the exposome that seeks to understand and quantify the totality of a human's lifetime exposure to various environmental factors, including chemical, physical, and biological agents. In essence, it involves assessing and analyzing the complex interactions between environmental exposures and an individual's genetic makeup, lifestyle, and other factors to understand their impact on human health and disease. By examining the cumulative effects of multiple exposures over time, exposomics provides valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of disease development and can inform strategies for prevention and intervention.</p><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>The ability to measure the complexity of the exposome has been limited by the available analytical technology to detect complex exposures patterns at varying concentrations. By using untargeted approaches with high-resolution mass spectrometry, it is possible to detect and identify ongoing exposures that may have not been expected or characterized. To determine the extent to which the constituent compounds contribute to an aroma, it is crucial to establish if they are present in concentrations that exceed the sensory threshold.</p><p>The Smart Aroma Database features a semi-quantitative function (SQF) that enables users to calculate approximate quantitative values (semi-quantitative concentrations) of an identified compounds without using a standard sample, so using the SQF enables more efficient workflows during<br>quantitative analysis of aroma characteristics.</p><p>One indicator for evaluating the contribution of a particular aromatic compound to the overall aroma is the Odor Activity Value or OAV, which is calculated by dividing the aroma compound concentration by its sensory threshold value. However, calculating the OAV can be labor-intensive because it involves the following three steps: (1) identifying compounds using qualitative analysis, (2) generating a calibration curve and performing quantitative analysis, and (3) setting the sensory thresholds. Therefore, this study investigated the feasibility of efficiently evaluating aroma characteristics using the Smart Aroma Database’s SQF.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>The results of this study demonstrate that using the Smart Aroma Database enables efficient calculation of OAV. However, the cost and complexity of these server-based compliance solutions may not be appropriate for smaller laboratories that require a simple set of compliance tools to manage records from a single ICP-MS instrument.</p><p>For these smaller laboratories, the Agilent ICP-MS MassHunter Workstation Plus software provides a lower-cost route to complying with 21 CFR Part 11 and Annex 11. Workstation Plus is installed on the ICP-MS instrument PC to provide a simple and cost-effective compliance solution for a single Agilent ICP-MS or ICP-QQQ instrument.</p><p>In common with OpenLab Server, ECM XT, and ECM integration, the ICP-MS MassHunter User Access Control option uses OpenLab Shared Services (OLSS) functions to control user access to the workstation and record application and workstation audit trails.</p><p><strong>Compliance components</strong></p><p>Compliance with regulations is a key aspect of an analytical laboratory’s operation in many industries, such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, where the principles of good manufacturing practice (GMP) apply.</p><p>The four components of compliance related to analytical instruments are:</p><ul><li>Design qualification (DQ), manufacturing quality control, lifecycle management and documentation, and installation and operational qualification (IQ/OQ), for analytical instruments and their software.</li><li>Control of user access to the workstation for instrument control and data processing (restricted user login access with password protection).</li><li>Electronic records security, integrity and traceability (secure storage, file versioning, audit trail, electronic signatures, and archive/retrieval).</li><li>Control of system operation, performance verification (PQ), physical access to the laboratory and associated equipment, Standard Operating Procedures, training and records.</li></ul><h4><strong>2. Thermo Fisher Scientific: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_002971_tea_icp_ms_whisky_an002971_em_en_8257443b85.pdf"><strong>Profiling the elemental composition of whisky using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>Goal</strong></p><p>This application note will highlight how whisky samples can be comprehensively analyzed for their elemental composition and how this can help to unravel differences according to their geological origin as well as in the processing.</p><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>The fermentation of foods and grains has a long history in human civilizations. Fermentation (and subsequent production of alcoholic beverages) has helped to make foods and drinks more durable, for example as an alternative to quickly degrading drinking water supplies on sea travel.</p><p>Whisky refers to a liquor made from fermented grain mash, often barley, corn, rye, and wheat. The main whisky producing countries are Scotland, Ireland, and the US, and controls over geographic origin are in place to maintain overall brand integrity.</p><p>Due to the large profit range especially for aged and rare whisky from specific manufacturers or regions, adulteration or incorrect labeling causes issues. There are a series of marker compounds that can be analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify whisky adulteration,<sup>1</sup> but the elemental composition can also provide relevant insights. There are certain elements that are known to vary in soils and may be used as indicators for geographical origin or to characterize relevant and unique steps in manufacturing. However, due to the distillation process, they may be depleted significantly in the final spirit compared to the original grain. This means highly sensitive instrumentation is needed to detect potentially small differences in concentrations.</p><p>Due to the alcohol content of around 40%, direct analysis using ICP-MS is often not possible. However, a reduction of the alcohol content by dilution makes the analysis possible without major changes to the sample introduction system (i.e., addition of oxygen to the plasma). Spectral and physical interferences however need to be considered. First, the remaining alcohol content changes the viscosity of the sample solutions and will therefore affect flow rates and nebulization efficiency in the sample introduction system. This can be addressed by preparation of matrix-matched calibration standards. Another reason to use matrix-matched calibration standards is the fact that analytes like arsenic and selenium are prone to signal enhancement in the presence of carbon and may therefore lead to false positive results if this is not compensated for. Last but not least, carbon can contribute to the formation of polyatomic interferences, such as <sup>40</sup>Ar<sup>12</sup>C<sup>+</sup> on <sup>52</sup>Cr.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>This study demonstrates that whisky, as well as other alcoholic beverages, can be analyzed for its complete trace elemental profile using the iCAP MSX ICP-MS following a simple dilution. The high robustness of the plasma as well as the re-designed sample introduction system allows solutions containing approximately 10 vol% of EtOH to be aspirated. Only minor changes to the sample introduction configuration were made to maximize sensitivity and account for the expected lower nebulizer flow rate. The data specifically demonstrates the high sensitivity of the instrument and its ability to remove polyatomic interferences. This in turn can be used to detect a wide range of elements that may show variability in whisky (and potentially other spirits derived from fermented agricultural products) based on geological conditions and/or processing materials or equipment used.</p><h4><strong>3. Shimadzu: </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_05_sca_125_032_en_0c9bac6f93.pdf"><strong>Analysis of Black Mass Using ICPE-9800 for Enhancing Accuracy of EDX-7200 Results</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><h5><strong>User Benefits</strong></h5><ul><li>CPE-9800 Series allows in-depth analysis of black mass samples for calibration of EDX-7200 and investigation of out-of-the-ordinary samples identified in process-control.</li><li>EDX-7200 Series represents a very fast tool for on-site process control with little sample preparation.</li><li>Both instruments complement another and provide any user with a full set of capabilities for their endeavors.</li></ul><h5><strong>Introduction</strong></h5><p>In the recycling process of lithium-ion batteries (LIB) black mass is an intermediate product from which, through various processes, precious metals like nickel, manganese and cobalt may be extracted. Any company trying to economically recover these valuable components requires information on the<br>elemental composition of the black mass to be used as the input material to their processes. At the same time, the producers of black mass strive to control their mechanical stage of the recycling process to assure a constant quality of their product. Both parties require instrumentation allowing fast and accurate elemental analysis for quality control.</p><p><strong>Strengths and weaknesses of ED-XRF and ICP-OES</strong></p><p>A great strength of EDX-7200 is the capability to directly analyze solid samples with little sample preparation. However, it may be difficult to spot interferences and gauge the accuracy of the obtained result. Sample preparation for analysis using ICPE-9820 can be time-consuming and complex, but the obtainable results may be more easily evaluated to spot possible biases due to matrix effects. Preparing calibration standards based on certified reference materials (CRMs) traceable to SI units is easy for liquid samples. This makes ICPE-9820 suitable to be used for preparing reference values on production samples. The complementary strengths and weaknesses of both techniques make Shimadzu’s EDX-7200 Series and ICPE-9800 Series a conclusive solution for the elemental analysis of black mass.</p><p>This application shows how to analyze black mass using ICPE-9800 to obtain an accurate reference value for EDX analysis<sup>1)</sup>.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>Shimadzu’s ICPE-9800 Series allows to conveniently validate obtained measurement results due to the ability to compare and add additional analysis lines after measurement. Liquid solutions allow for dilution or spike recovery experiments, that cannot be easily recreated with solid samples. Compared to ED-XRF however, sample preparation is vastly more extensive. That is why both techniques complement another that well. The herewith presented results will serve as reference values for calibration of Shimadzu’s EDX-7200 to set up as a fast analysis procedure for on-site analysis of black mass that is equivalent to results obtained using ICPE-9800 Series<sup>2)</sup>.</p><h4><strong>4.
