Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell hydrogen is the application with the most stringent specification. Hydrogen purity specifications for other applications, i.e. residential or industrial use, typically allow for higher levels of specific&nbsp;contaminants.&nbsp;</p><p>For PEM fuel cell-grade hydrogen, there are several key methods regulating quality. Some methods may also cover other scopes, but where they pertain to PEM fuel cell-grade hydrogen, they align on specific requirements for purity level and limit concentrations of specific contaminants.&nbsp;</p><ul><li><strong>SAE J2719</strong> specifies hydrogen fuel quality requirements for PEM fuel cell vehicles, such as hydrogen-powered cars.&nbsp;</li><li><strong>ISO 14687</strong> specifies minimum quality characteristics of hydrogen fuel for various applications, including residential, commercial, industrial, stationary systems, and vehicular use.&nbsp;</li><li><strong>EN 17124</strong> specifies the quality characteristics of hydrogen fuel dispensed at hydrogen refueling stations for use in PEM fuel cell vehicle systems.</li><li><strong>ISO 19880-8</strong> specifies the quality of the gaseous hydrogen at hydrogen distribution facilities and hydrogen fueling stations for PEM fuel cells for road vehicles.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Micro GC is a suitable choice of technique for covering analysis of permanent gases in ultra high purity (UHP) hydrogen (oxygen, nitrogen, argon, helium, and methane). The small internal volume of the MEMS-based µTCD in the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/library?manufacturerItems=1&amp;search=990+Micro+GC"><strong>Agilent 990 Micro GC</strong></a> means that lower detection levels can be achieved when compared to regular TCDs, allowing for detection of contaminants in the single-digit ppm range. Note that ammonia, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and formaldehyde can also be detected with Micro GC; however, additional/different columns might be required. Sensitivity requirements below 1 ppm may require alternate techniques.</p><h4><strong>Experimental&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>The method developed covers permanent gases defined in SAE J2719, and by default, also ISO 14687, ISO 19880‑8, and EN 17124. The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/library?manufacturerItems=1&amp;search=990+Micro+GC"><strong>990 Micro GC</strong></a> system was set up similar to the method described in Agilent application note 5994‑2138EN.<sup>1</sup> A 20 m MS5A straight channel on hydrogen carrier gas was used. Table 2 lists experimental conditions for method development. A 20 m molsieve provides sufficient separation for the argon/oxygen peak pair at low-ppm concentrations.<sup>2</sup> For best results, the column was operated at a low temperature of 30 °C. Hydrogen was used as carrier gas to completely mask the bulk hydrogen matrix peak, resulting in separation of the helium and neon baseline<sup>3</sup> , while still allowing for a similar sensitivity as with the helium carrier. The hydrogen carrier allows helium (He), argon (Ar), oxygen (O<sub>2</sub>), nitrogen (N<sub>2</sub> ), methane (CH<sub>4</sub> ), and even neon (Ne) to be measured at their required levels. Carbon monoxide (CO) that elutes from the molsieve column is not part of the scope. SAE J2719 requires these to be measured at the sub-ppm level, which is too low for Micro GC. Table 3 lists the composition of calibration gas used. The system was calibrated using single‑point calibration.</p><h4><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>The Agilent 990 Micro GC setup, described with a single 20&nbsp;m straight molsieve column running hydrogen carrier gas is capable of meeting the hydrogen quality requirement in SAE J2719 and other comparable UHP hydrogen methods for select permanent gases (He, Ar, O<sub>2</sub>, N<sub>2</sub>, CH<sub>4</sub> ). The critical component, oxygen, can reliably be measured below the required five ppm level. Precision and accuracy are excellent for all components, and with a short runtime of five&nbsp;minutes, this analytical option can deliver 10–12 runs per hour. Detection of other components listed in SAE J2719, i.e.&nbsp;ammonia or CO/CO<sub>2</sub> , will require different equipment.</p><h3><strong>2. BaySpec: Detecting Toxins on Cannabis Leaves with Portable Miniature Mass Spectrometer</strong></h3><ul><li>Application note</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/Bay_Spec_App_Note_Toxin_Detection_on_Cannabis_Leaves_with_Portability_Mass_Spectrometer_b15213c47e.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><p>Mass spectrometry in connection with different separa‐ tion techniques currently represents the main analytical approach for determination of residual pesticides in the Food &amp; Agriculture industry. Traditionally, samples need to be collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis using techniques such as GC‐MS or HPLC‐MS, which are costly and time‐consuming. In addition, the conventional mass spectrometer usually requires laborious sample pre‐ treatment, which does not allow for immediate in‐situ sample determination.</p><p>Presented in this application note are data from a ther‐ mal desorption electrospray ionization (TD‐ESI) or atmso‐ pheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source coupled to a portable mass spectrometer for toxin screening of cannabis leaves.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Bayspec’s <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/products/2219"><strong>Portability mass spectrometer</strong></a> is less than 10 kg, highly portable, and battery‐operated.&nbsp;&nbsp;Its linear ion trap mass analyzer can perform fast in‐field detection of analytes, including residual toxins, by direct sampling of the surfaces of fresh food and plant products without any sample pre‐treatment.&nbsp;&nbsp;In this study, BaySpec’s sampling probe was used to directly swab the surface of cannabis leaves and inserted into the TD‐ESI or APCI sample inlet system for real time analysis. Four different samples were studied:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Fresh cannabis leaves&nbsp;</li><li>Fresh cannabis leaves sprayed with PBO&nbsp;</li><li>Fresh cannabis leaves sprayed with myclobutanil&nbsp;</li><li>Fresh cannabis leaves sprayed with paraquat</li></ul><p>All sprayed samples were air‐dried prior to screening.&nbsp;&nbsp;No sample preparation was done to test the leaves.&nbsp;&nbsp;Both TD‐ ESI and APCI ionization methods tested positive for THC and toxins where applicable.&nbsp;&nbsp;See Figure 3 for recorded spectra.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Due to short analysis times (1‐5 seconds per sample), this technique allows for fast screening for applications in food and environmental safety. MS (as well as MS/MS) analyses can be performed on surface‐residual toxins at parts per billion levels.&nbsp; &nbsp; The TD‐ESI ion source with PortabilityTM miniature mass spectrometer is available from BaySpec.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>This system does not require any add‐ itional support, external po‐ wer or gases. The simple in‐ tuitive software interface is operated by touch screen and makes the instrument ex‐ tremely easy to control. The external TD‐ESI source is fully integrated into the main software environment and the turn‐key system is user‐ friendly, does not require excessive training, and can be operated by persons with no previous mass spectrometry experiences</p><h3><strong>3. Metrohm: Monitoring phosphate reactions in real time with Raman spectroscopy</strong></h3><ul><li>Application note</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_rs_054_download_d034c2ebb5.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><h4><strong>CURRENT METHODES FOR REACTION ANALYSIS</strong></h4><p>Titration is highly effective for quantifying phosphate and sulfate species to determine reaction completion and final product composition in fertilizers. Gravimetric analysis is used to quantify insoluble byproducts like gypsum (CaSO<sub>4</sub>·2H<sub>2</sub>O). Both techniques require sample collection, hazardous reagents, and manual processing – all of which introduce time delays and incur costs with every measurement. This Application Note describes how Raman spectroscopy was used as an alternative method to monitor a simplified phosphate fertilizer production process under laboratory conditions.&nbsp;</p><h4><strong>METHOD</strong></h4><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://gcms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=220&amp;search=+i-Raman"><strong>Raman spectroscopy</strong></a> is well suited to monitor phosphate species due to its high selectivity and nondestructive nature. Furthermore, it can simultaneously detect sulfate ions, enabling real-time analysis of multi-component reaction systems. In this study, dicalcium phosphate (CaHPO<sub>4</sub>, hereafter referred to as DCP) is used as a model compound for phosphate rock. In a 100 mL beaker, 500 mg of DCP was dissolved in 10 mL of 0.5 mol/L hydrochloric acid (HCl) (Equation 1). To simulate industrial reaction conditions and introduce sulfate ions, 0.25 mL of 1.0 mol/L sulfuric acid (H<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>) was then added. The use of low-concentration HCl ensures safe handling and facilitates clear identification of the sulfate (SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2−</sup>) Raman peak.</p><h4><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></h4><p>Raman spectroscopy proved to be an effective tool for monitoring a phosphate fertilizer production process, providing clear insights into phosphate speciation, sulfate concentration, and precipitation dynamics. Raman spectral changes revealed transitions in phosphate protonation states and the formation of calcium-based precipitates. These capabilities support enhanced process control and product quality in phosphate fertilizer manufacturing.</p>

Therefore, monitoring is of the utmost importance.&nbsp;</p><p>This application note describes the advantages of using an Agilent 1290 Infinity III Bio Online LC solution with Agilent Online LC Monitoring software. A bioreactor was interfaced with a Flownamics Seg-Flow S3 sampling system for aseptic withdrawal and an Agilent 1290 Infinity III Bio Online LC to make an hourly analysis.&nbsp;</p><p>This is a fully automated approach for taking sterile samples from a bioreactor and preparing or diluting them. The Seg-Flow interface was used to withdraw samples from a bioreactor through a Flownamics F-Series 310 FISP probe with a ceramic membrane filter (0.2&nbsp;µm pore size) from a 5 L bioreactor. The drawn samples were sent through the built-in sample collection cup on the Seg‑Flow to the LC and the samples were retained into vials. The collected samples were then automatically derivatized by using an injector program and subsequently analyzed. A more detailed description of the instrumental configuration has been published.<sup>3</sup></p><h4><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>For online bioprocess monitoring, a fully automated setup consisting of a bioreactor, a Flownamics sampling system, and an Agilent 1290 Infinity III Bio Online LC solution was successfully established. This setup is capable of taking aseptic samples from a bioreactor, preparing, analyzing, and processing samples without the need for manual interaction. In addition, the added value of the Agilent Online LC Monitoring software was evident in the display method and the ability to track it quickly.</p><h3><strong>2. During the synthesis of oligonucleotide therapeutics, impurities that have differing base chain lengths are generated along with the target oligonucleotide. To ensure the safety and efficacy of the drug, comprehensive detection and identification of these impurities are required.&nbsp;</p><p>Reversed phase ion-pair chromatography is often employed as a method to separate the target compound from co-existing impurities. However, it is often difficult to establish analytical conditions that provide compete separation of all impurities that are formed in synthesis process due to their similar structures and properties to the principal compound of active ingredient. Against this drawback, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is commonly used for impurity detection and identification. For analysis of oligonucleotide impurities, quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometers are mainly used because of their high mass resolution and ability to perform sequence and structure estimations via MS/MS analysis. However, in quality control process, the use of a single quadrupole mass spectrometer is expected to be advantageous because of providing mass information with easy operation when impurity information is already known.&nbsp;</p><p>This article presents a simulated impurity analysis of synthetic oligonucleotide using the LCMS-2050 high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer and LabSolutions Insight Biologics.</p><h4><strong>Analytical conditions</strong></h4><p>The employed instrument setup was <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=1&amp;search=Nexera+XS"><strong>Nexera XS inert</strong></a> and <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=1&amp;search=LCMS-2050"><strong>LCMS-2050</strong></a>. HPLC conditions are shown in Table 2, and MS conditions are shown in Table 3. The conditions were set where n-1(5') co-eluted with FLP, while n-3(5') was separated (Fig. 1) to demonstrate impurity analysis performance.</p><h4><strong>Conclusion</strong></h4><p>The simulated sample consisting of mainly FLP and small amounts of n-1(5')/n-3(5') was analyzed using the LCMS-2050 and LabSolutions Insight Biologics software and obtained data were processed appropriately. Detection, identification, and quantitation at low concentrations were accomplished not only for n-3(5') well-separated from FLP but also for n-1(5') co-eluted with FLP. In case that establishing analytical conditions is difficult, Using this instrument setup and software will provide efficient quality confirmation of oligonucleotide therapeutics.</p><h3><strong>3. Thermo Fisher Scientific: Simultaneous Quantitation and Untargeted Discovery (SQUAD) workflow using multiple fragmentation techniques for quantitation and characterization of trace level nitrosamine in biological matrices</strong></h3><ul><li>Poster</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/po_squad_workflow_multiple_fragmentation_techniques_po_en_94a5b27b12.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><p>N-Nitrosamines are a class of carcinogenic chemical compounds that pose threat to humans exogenously through matrices like drinking water, food, cosmetics, and endogenously by nitrosation in gastrointestinal tract, nitrate to nitrite conversion, etc. An accurate, reliable analytical method is critical for detection and quantification of these trace-level, polar and low molecular weight compounds to understand the association between their exposure and related diseases.&nbsp;</p><p>An optimized SQUAD workflow is presented that discovers unknown compounds in the matrix by using high resolution orbitrap and a sensitive linear ion trap detector that quantifies the low intensity nitrosamines in a single run. The workflow uses multiple fragmentation types – HCD, CID and UVPD and MSn to help characterize isomeric structures.</p><h4><strong>Methods</strong></h4><p>Serial dilution of Nitrosamine standards were subjected to Simultaneous Quantitation and Discovery (SQUAD) analysis using <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/products/744"><strong>Thermo Scientific™ Vanquish™ Horizon UHPLC system</strong></a> and the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/products/561"><strong>Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap IQ-X™ Tribrid™ mass spectrometer</strong></a> . Following increased public health awareness during 2019, VEA became a marker of interest for quality control and regulatory surveillance across cannabis supply chains due to its potential impact on lung health. In addition to concentrates and vape liquids, trace residues may be present in infused products and processing intermediates. Therefore, reliable quantification of VEA in these chemically diverse, lipid-rich matrices requires an analytical method that is sensitive, selective, and robust against matrix effects. In February 2024, Missouri’s DCR revised the tolerance limit for VEA in cannabis products from 0.2 ppm to 5 ppm.<sup>1&nbsp;</sup></p><p>Liquid chromatography coupled with tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) provides the sensitivity and specificity required to distinguish VEA from endogenous cannabinoids, terpenes, and other lipophilic excipients, while also offering the sensitivity to support low-ppm and sub-ppm action limits. Unlike UVbased methods, where co-eluting chromophores may interfere, LC-MS/MS enables targeted multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) for confident identification and accurate quantitation in complex cannabis matrices.&nbsp;</p><p>This application note describes the validation of an LC-MS/MS method for the quantitation of VEA in two inhalable products, cannabis flower and cannabis concentrates. The method was developed and validated using the Waters ACQUITY UPLC H-Class System coupled with a Xevo TQ-S micro Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer. Chromatographic separation was achieved with a reversed-phase ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 Column. A streamlined sample preparation approach was applied for cannabis flowers and concentrates, which minimizes handling time and increases sample throughput.&nbsp;</p><p>The validation study was conducted at GPA. Method performance was evaluated for calibration range, linearity, LOD, LOQ, accuracy, precision, recovery, repeatability, and robustness. Agilent Technologies: ICP-OES Analysis of Copper Recovered from Li-Ion Batteries for Foil Manufacturing</strong></h3><p><strong>Automated characterization of materials for battery remanufacturing using the </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=10&amp;search=5800+VDV+ICP-OES"><strong>Agilent 5800 ICP-OES</strong></a></p><ul><li>Application note</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_copper_recycled_batteries_5800_icp_oes_5994_8850en_agilent_1318ecdd02.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><p>The main goal of lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling is to recover essential elements so they can be reused in the production of new batteries.<sup>1</sup> This cyclic process not only reduces waste and environmental impact but also helps lower manufacturing costs and supports the growing demand for battery materials.</p><p>The key elements recovered during LIB recycling include lithium (Li), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni), which are used in cathode production, as well as copper (Cu), which is critical for making Cu foil.&nbsp;</p><p>On average, LIBs contain around 10–15% Cu by weight, making it an ideal metal for recovery. During remanufacturing, the recycled Cu is dissolved in sulfuric acid (H<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>) to produce an aqueous copper sulfate solution (CuSO<sub>4</sub>), commonly referred to as a Cu electrolyte. Once this solution reaches the desired concentration, Cu is electroplated to produce high-purity Cu foil.<sup>2</sup> After Cu removal, the remaining electrolyte still contains valuable metals, such as Co, Ni, and Li, which can also be recovered and refined for reuse. The process is summarized in Figure 1.</p><p>In this study, a fully integrated system comprising the Agilent 5800 VDV ICP-OES, Advanced Valve System (AVS 7), Advanced Dilution System (ADS 2), SPS 4 autosampler, and instrument software was used to quantify 23 elements in three real-word recycled copper electrolyte samples. The elements included: aluminum (Al), antimony (Sb), arsenic (As), bismuth (Bi), cadmium (Cd), calcium (Ca), chromium (Cr), Co, Cu, iron (Fe), lead (Pb), Li, magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), sodium (Na), Ni, phosphorus (P), selenium (Se), silicon (Si), silver (Ag), tin (Sn), potassium (K), zinc (Zn).&nbsp;</p><p>The copper electrolyte samples were analyzed as received. The method’s accuracy, robustness, and stability were assessed via a spike-recovery test on actual samples and a five-hour long-term stability test of 187 samples.</p><h4><strong>Experimental&nbsp;</strong></h4><h5><strong>Instrumentation&nbsp;</strong></h5><p>All measurements were performed using an <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=10&amp;search=5800+VDV+ICP-OES"><strong>Agilent 5800 VDV ICP-OES</strong></a> configured with an AVS 7 switching valve, ADS 2 autodilutor, and SPS 4 autosampler (Figure 2). Combined with Agilent ICP Expert Pro software, these components represent the Agilent ICP-OES Automation System. The sample introduction system consisted of a SeaSpray nebulizer, double-pass cyclonic spray chamber, argon humidifier accessory, and Agilent semi-demountable VDV torch with a 1.8 mm internal diameter (id) injector.&nbsp;</p><p>An internal standard (IS) solution comprising 5 mg/L scandium (Sc) and 100 mg/L rubidium (Rb) was prepared in 3% H2 SO4 using Agilent single element standard solutions. The ISs were used to account for any matrix effects that may arise from the sample matrix. The seven-port AVS system enables the IS solution to be directly plumbed into the valve so it can be introduced with the sample.</p><h4><strong>Method development&nbsp;</strong></h4><h5><strong>IntelliQuant Screening&nbsp;</strong></h5><p>As part of the ICP Expert Pro software, the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=10&amp;search=IntelliQuant"><strong>IntelliQuant Screening</strong></a> routine can be used to collect full-spectrum data of a sample, requiring only a few seconds analysis time and with little input from the analyst.<sup>9</sup> The IntelliQuant algorithm then processes the full-spectrum data against premeasured calibrations, generating a semiquantitative reading for every element present in the sample.</p><p>IntelliQuant Screening was used in this study during method development to determine the approximate concentration of elements in the three Cu electrolyte samples. The data informed the selection of the calibration range, internal standards, and emission lines best suited for accurate quantitative analysis.&nbsp;</p><p>The software can display the data in various ways, including as a periodic table heatmap or pie chart. Figure 4A shows a pie chart of the elemental composition of the Cu electrolyte 3 sample. As expected, Cu and S were the predominant elements. To better understand the trace components of the sample, Cu and S were excluded from the graphic, revealing the presence of additional elements such as Na, Ca, Fe, Li, Si and Ni, among others (Figure 4B).</p><p>Yttrium (Y), a widely used internal standard, was detected in the sample (Figure 4C). This guided the selection of Sc and Rb as internal standards.&nbsp;</p><p>The IntelliQuant star rating system further supported method development by recommending optimal emission lines and identifying potential spectral interferences. For instance, in this sample, the Zn 213 and Zn 202 nm lines were affected by interferences from Fe and Cu, and Cu, respectively (Figure 4D). Based on this valuable information, Zn 206 nm was selected as the most suitable line for the quantitative method.</p><h4><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>The Agilent ICP-OES Automation System—a combination of the Agilent 5800 VDV ICP-OES with the AVS 7 switching valve, ADS 2 autodilutor, SPS 4 autosampler, and ICP Expert Pro software—provides a powerful solution for elemental analysis in lithium battery recycling and copper foil remanufacturing. The system delivered accurate, precise, and reproducible results across a wide concentration range, even in challenging high-matrix copper electrolyte samples. Automated prescriptive and reactive dilutions minimized manual sample handling, reduced errors, and ensured that all analytes were reliably quantified within calibration limits.&nbsp;</p><p>Spike recovery and long-term stability tests further demonstrated the robustness of the method, with recoveries within 100 ±5% and precision better than 1.3% RSD over five hours of continuous operation. These results confirm that the ICP-OES Automation System not only streamlines sample preparation and analysis but also enhances laboratory productivity, data quality, and confidence in results.&nbsp;</p><p>By simplifying the analysis of complex matrices while maintaining accuracy and throughput, the system enables laboratories in the energy and chemicals sector to efficiently support the recovery and reuse of critical elements from lithium-ion batteries, contributing to sustainable battery manufacturing.</p><h3><strong>2. Metrohm: Paprika powder analysis with NIR spectroscopy</strong></h3><ul><li>Application note</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_nir_134_download_9720122671.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><p>Paprika powder is a common cooking spice. The bright red color makes paprika powder an ideal natural colorant in seasonings, sauces, confectionary products, processed cheeses, etc. Its quality is directly associated with the presence and proportions of flavoring, coloring, and pungent compounds. Paprika's pungency is primarily attributed to capsaicinoids. Capsaicin accounts for ~71% of the total capsaicinoids in the most pungent paprika varieties [1].</p><p>Spiciness is measured using the Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) scale (sweet paprikas &lt;500 SHU, hot paprikas 2500–8000 SHU). The color is determined according to the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) [2]. In this study, quality parameters including the capsaicin content, ASTA color, SHU, water activity (aw), and ash content were measured simultaneously in paprika powder samples using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).</p><h4><strong>EXPERIMENTAL EQUIPMENT&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>Paprika samples were measured using a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=220&amp;search=NIR+Analyzer"><strong>Metrohm NIR Analyzer</strong></a>. No sample preparation nor solvents were required. All measurements were performed in reflection mode (1000–2250 nm) using the large cup accessory. The samples were measured in rotation to collect spectral data from several areas. Spectral averaging of signals from different spots helped to reduce sample inhomogeneity. Metrohm software was used for all data acquisition and prediction model development.</p><h4><strong>CONCLUSION&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>This Application Note displays the benefits of analyzing paprika powder with NIR spectroscopy. NIRS allows all the mentioned quality parameters (i.e., capsaicin content, ASTA color, SHU, water activity (aw ), and ash content) to be measured simultaneously in only a few seconds. Measurements performed with NIR spectroscopy do not need any sample preparation nor solvents, unlike other conventional analytical methods (Table 1). This ultimately leads to a reduction in workload and related costs, and also keeps lab personnel safer.</p><h3><strong>3. Shimadzu: Torsional and Pinching Dynamic Characteristics Testing of Rubber Vibration Isolators [JIS K6385]</strong></h3><ul><li>Application note</li><li><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_01_01035_en_164ff9c18a.pdf"><strong>Full PDF for download</strong></a></li></ul><h4><strong>User Benefits</strong></h4><ul><li>Dynamic characteristic tests based on JIS K6385 can be performed.</li><li>Frequency sweep tests automatically measure dynamic characteristic values at each frequency.&nbsp;</li><li>Tests in both torsional and pinching directions can be performed simply by changing the jig.</li></ul><p>Rubber vibration isolators are a product designed to prevent or mitigate the transmission of vibration and shock and are widely used in various fields such as transportation equipment, construction, and industrial machinery.&nbsp;</p><p>JIS K6385 “Rubber vibration isolators - Testing methods” specifies several test methods and termsfor evaluating the performance of rubber vibration isolators1). Among these, tests in the torsional direction around the central axis and tests in the torsional direction around an arbitrary axis perpendicular to the central axis (pinching test) are defined for cylindrical rubber vibration isolators. Cylindrical rubber vibration isolators are used for supporting and coupling vibration sources such as engines and motors, and play an important role in reducing noise and stabilizing performance. When mounted on a vehicle, loads are applied in both the torsional and pinching directions, so it is necessary to evaluate the characteristics of each.&nbsp;</p><p>This article introduces examples of dynamic characteristic tests in the torsional and pinching directions for cylindrical rubber vibration isolators. International standards corresponding to JIS K6385 have not been established at present.</p><h4><strong>Calculation of Various Dynamic Characteristic Values&nbsp;</strong></h4><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/library?mainauthorItems=1&amp;search=JIS+K+6385"><strong>JIS K 6385</strong></a> specifies calculation methods for various dynamic characteristic values, referring to JIS K6394. Absolute spring constant, storage spring constant, loss spring constant, damping factor, and loss factor are each calculated from Formulas 1 to 5 respectively. Like energy, these can be calculated by frequency sweep test and resonance frequency tracking test software. For torsion and pinching tests, test force is converted into torque and displacement into angle. The international standard corresponding to JIS K6394 is ISO 4664-1.</p><h4><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;</strong></h4><p>Using a combined axial force and torsion testing machine, torsional and pinching dynamic characteristic tests were conducted on cylindrical type vibration isolators based on JIS K6385. By using the frequency sweep test software, it was possible to quickly confirm the dependence of various dynamic characteristic values on the excitation frequency.</p><h3><strong>4.
