Better food quality control with manual and automated NIR spectroscopy

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is an established and proven technology for fast, reliable, and chemical-free quality control of food products. With analysis times of only a few seconds and little to no sample preparation, NIR spectroscopy enables close monitoring of production processes and supports consistent production within specifications.
In this webinar, we will show how NIRS can support modern food quality control. After a short introduction to the technology behind NIRS, we will present real-world application examples for chips, edible oils, dairy products, and flour. Attendees will also learn how analyses can be performed manually or integrated with sample robots to streamline routine testing, e.g., of milk.
Key learnings of this webinar:
- Understand the basic principles of NIRS and the advantages of this technology for rapid food quality control.
- Learn how key quality parameters in foodstuffs can be analyzed within seconds and with only minimal sample preparation.
- Explore practical application examples for chips, edible oils, dairy products, and flour.
- Learn how OMNIS software functionalities support straightforward adjustment and maintenance of calibration models as product characteristics, raw materials, or quality requirements change.
Who should attend?
QC and QA Managers, Lab Managers, Lab Technicians.
Presenter: Dr. Nicolas Rühl (Product Manager Spectroscopy, Metrohm International Headquarters
Dr. Nicolas Rühl works at the Competence Center Spectroscopy at Metrohm International Headquarters since 2015. In this time, he has been in charge of developing the near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy business at Metrohm. Nicolas has a Master in Business Administration and received his PhD in physical chemistry on single-molecule spectroscopy using Vis-NIR and Raman spectroscopy technologies.
Presenter: Dr. Dave van Staveren (Head of Competence Center Spectroscopy, Metrohm International Headquarters)
Dave van Staveren completed his Ph. D. work at the Max-Planck-Institute for Bioinorganic Chemistry in Germany with a strong focus on various spectroscopic methods. After starting his career as a R&D scientist for a Biotech company, he transitioned into Product Management roles in the field of Analytical Instrumentation. In his current position at Metrohm, he has been in charge of NIR Product Management and Application Development since 2016.
