Intro

Overview of the Day

  • Presented by Vitan Blagotinsek, Agilent Technologies
Highlight talk

Let’s Bring Great Science to Life Sustainably

  • Presented by Cathy Styles, Agilent Technologies

Laboratories consume up to 10× more energy and 4× more water than office spaces. Discover how Agilent embeds sustainability into great science—through thoughtful instrument design considering the entire lifecycle, product transparency through the ACT ecolabel, and CrossLab Connect insights that reduce downtime, waste, and energy use. Learn how biopharma labs can reduce environmental impact while advancing performance, efficiency, and net-zero goals.

Talk 1

High-Throughput Kinetic Infectivity Assays Based on Automated Live-Cell Imaging

  • Presented by Dominik Hotter, Boehringer Ingelheim

Conventional infectivity assays are often limited by labor-intensive workflows, endpoint-based readouts, and restricted throughput. This presentation describes a label-free kinetic infectivity assay that determines infectious virus titers from time-resolved morphological changes in infected cell cultures. Automated image acquisition enables continuous monitoring of cellular responses and extraction of kinetic parameters that reflect infection progression. The presentation will discuss assay design, image-based analysis concepts, and key benefits of kinetic measurements, including enhanced precision, improved scalability, reduced hands-on effort, and broad applicability for modern biopharmaceutical analytics.

Talk 2

Replacing SDS-PAGE with Automated CE-SDS for High Throughput In-Process Control Screening

  • Presented by Alexandre Giordana, Sanofi

SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis presents major limitations: low throughput, manual handling, and semi-quantitative results. This work describes the implementation of the Agilent ProteoAnalyzer coupled with full automation of sample preparation (Andrew+, Hamilton) and an in-house digital application for analyzing and comparing results.
This automated approach improves analytical performance, frees up scientists' time, and accelerates feedback to process development teams with quantitative and reproducible results for rapid optimization of upstream processes (USP) and downstream processes (DSP).

Talk 3

Agilent Automation Solutions for Robust Biopharma Workflows: From Small to Large Molecules

  • Presented by Sufyan Pandor and Katherine Roper, Agilent Technologies

As biologics become increasingly complex, automation is essential for delivering robust, reproducible, and scalable workflows across biopharmaceutical research and quality control. This presentation provides an overview of Agilent's automation solutions before exploring the Agilent AssayMAP Bravo Platform and its unique micro-chromatography technology for high-throughput protein sample preparation. Learn how the Protein Sample Prep Workbench simplifies method development while
supporting diverse applications, including proteomics, peptide mapping, glycans, and immunocapture workflows. We will also highlight recent platform innovations and share practical insights from AssayMAP users demonstrating how automation is accelerating productivity, data quality, and workflow standardization.

Talk 4

From Automated Labs to Self-Driving Laboratories: Accelerating R&D with Robotics and AI

  • Presented by Yolanda Casas, ABB

ABB Robotics is transforming R&D laboratories through flexible, scalable automation that integrates instruments, workflows, and data. This presentation will highlight ABB’s standardized robotic cells as modular building blocks to automate key lab processes, enabling rapid deployment, reproducibility, and efficiency. Building on this, ABB is advancing toward the closed-loop, self-driving lab, where robotics, AI-driven experiment design, and real-time data feedback enable autonomous optimization of experiments, accelerating discovery and improving data quality.
