PerkinElmer: Liquid Chromatography 2022 Learning Series

Presented in a Q&A format, this session of our LC learning series will explore some of the most common issues/problems encountered in the HPLC lab. As the most important diagnostic tool for HPLC is monitoring the pump pressure, several examples of pressure issues will be discussed. Other problems, such as retention time and peak area irreproducibility, and detector baseline noise or drift will be also presented.

The aim of this session is to provide some basic troubleshooting fundamentals to build confidence in recognizing when issues are occurring and how to resolve them to improve instrument uptime and laboratory productivity.

Presenter: Pamela A. Perrone (Senior Principal LC Technical Education, PerkinElmer)

Pam has been with PerkinElmer for almost 39 years. She had the opportunity to work as a summer intern and was offered full-time employment after completing her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Rhode Island. Currently Pam is in the role she finds most fulfilling and challenging which is as the global support and trainer for both service and customers for LC and chromatography data handling. To help someone learn and be successful in their job is very rewarding.

Pam has a passion for three things (besides LC, of course!): her family, the UConn women’s basketball team and Broadway. She believes there is a Broadway song that fits almost every occasion.

Presenter: Jamie Foss (Product Manager – Liquid Chromatography, PerkinElmer)

Jamie Foss is the Liquid Chromatography Product Manager for PerkinElmer. Prior to this role, he was a Sr. Application Scientist developing strategic applications in support PerkinElmer’s LC and LC-MS product portfolio. He has developed a wide variety of applications across food, environmental, industrial, forensics and cannabis. Prior to joining PerkinElmer in 2016, he spent 4 years as a forensic chemist for the State of Maine where he focused on the analysis of controlled substances and clandestine laboratory investigation.
